Free Fiction - FOR FREE!

That's right, something for nothing. Stories in the Ether, an ongoing project of Nevermet Press, posts a new story every Friday, and you can read it free on their website. And not just schlock stories either, I'm talking shorts from literary giants- people such as Sevan Taylor for instance. This week, Cruise of the Lightship Venture has been posted, and available to peruse for the cost of a few mouse clicks. What are you still doing here? I don't give anything away free, you've gotta click on the picture to get the free stuff.

The Barfs are coming....

The Barfarian Lightship Venture has broken down. Seems the lightdrive has gone severely out of focus, and they've fallen off beam. Worse yet, the only viable place to set down and make repairs is a tiny blue backwater inhabited by a bunch of squishy little critters who have never even heard of a darktorch. Able Crewman Third Class Freen and his best bud Brill are going to make the best of it, though. Will the repairs get made in time? Will the meeting of two disparate cultures enrich both, or destroy them? Do gronats defecate in the vegitated areas? What's with the pulled pork sandwiches? On September 30th, when Nevermet Press posts Cruise of the Lightship Venture on the Stories in the Ether site, all these questions and more will finally be answered.

I'm Gonna Need a Couple of Million...

Home Sweet Home... I'd kick off my boots here. This loft is for sale in Chelsea, all decked out in awesomeness.
It's only $1.75 million, but I think I'll need the extra $250k because I'm pretty sure my wife won't live in Chelsea, and she definitely won't live in a place that looks like this.

Cover Art!

Is there anything better than seeing the coverart for a book that will contain your story? Yes- Knowing that the cover art was based on the words you wrote, as is the case with this spactacular representation of a scene from Breakdown, soon to be published by Hydra Publications in the Steam Works anthology. Look for it with this picture on the cover.

Wisdom of the Saints

I'll tell you one thing that I know,
You don't face your demons down-
You gotta grab 'em Jack,
And pin 'em to the ground.
-St. Joe Strummer
Cole Jenkins is a man plagued by demons. Demons he has lived with for far too long. He also happens to have access to a machine shop and a background in engineering.
He's working on something special- and on Friday, if you check out Nevermet Press' Stories in the Ether, you will find out what a man can do with a Mechanical Advantage.

Due out late April, this promises to be an uproarious good time.
So
CHECK IT OUT
In Penny Dread Tales Volume One discover times and places only dreamt of in your wildest imagination: gadgets, gizmos and robots driven by aether and steam; angels, zombie soldiers and aliens walking through the Victorian age; and what would a steampunk anthology be without zeppelins, time machines and Sherlock Holmes? We've got gun-slingers, Chinese assassins and clockwork robots that can't keep their hands off each other. There are even a few dinosaurs thrown in for good measure.

Recently Unearthed

Professor Horatio Trilby, on an expedition from the University of Glasgow into the Scottish highlands, recently unearthed a slumbering giant, thought to be the original
Clockwork Colossus.
Built by the Iron and Steel Institute before the Great War, the automation, known later as the Mark I, was the culmination of a nation's industrial might.
The strange tale of the steam-powered Samson's creation and eventual demise has been recovered from the memory reels in the monstrous analytical engine, and will be made available for your perusal in July, when Hydra Publications prints
BREAKDOWN
in their
STEAMWORKS
anthology.

Murder on the Meriwether

Recently received radio-telegraph dispatches report disturbing news from the Great Plains Line's flagship, the transcontinental airship Meriwether.
A Shocking Murder
has occurred, a young maid attending to the cabin of the notable Count Reginald Worthington, Duke of San Fransisco, having been found lifeless on the floor of Lady Lucy Worthington's chambers.
The Star of the Orient Stolen
from the safe in the chamber of said Lady Worthington. The star, a singular gem said to have once adorned the turban of the Tipoo Sultan is beyond estimable value.
Agent Herschel Winchester
of the United States Department of Justice has been in contact with Captain Emanuel Abraham and awaits arrival of the Meriwether this evening at the St Louis airdocks.
Expect to read a full and complete account of this tragic chain of events when Penny Dread Tales, Volume One is released in May, from Rune Wright Publishing.

Steambugs

Gaze if you dare into the unblinking eye of the Arthrobot. What is an Arthrobot? I am so glad you asked. In the words of Tom Hardwidge, the artist responsile for the creation of this astounding new phyllum: Arthrobots are unique and individual arthropod sculptures. Tom is based near Manchester in England and has been creating the Arthrobots (a combination of robots and arthropods) since late 2010. Each Arthrobot starts its life as a series of sketches, some take their inspiration from nature, others from bits and pieces of metal and beads which form an unusual structure or fit together in an interesting way. After they have been planned out (very roughly) they start to take shape in Tom's dining room where he has all of his tools and materials laid out to prevent any actual dining from taking place. The address of Tom's domain on the Aether is- http://www.arthrobots.com/
There are several more photos, most in color.
